Muffin Tin Monday - Homemade Happy Meal!

This week there is No theme at Muffin Tin Monday- so we decided to make a Happy Meal at Home!

This month, My Family & I are participating in the No Dining March Challenge with Couponing to Disney, because we had a problem with eating out too much! We have been doing great & we have not dined out at all this month! My kids love McDonald's, plus it is right down the street from my house and it's quick and easy for hectic days or nights. We haven't had McDonalds in over a month now! So we decided to make a Happy Meal at home for Muffin Tin Monday this week! I also wanted to show a price comparision, because we are really saving money by not eating out!

In a McDonald's Happy meal, you get:

-4 piece chicken nuggets
-apples
-low-fat milk
-a small toy

For a whopping $3.39 at McDonald's. (This is the price in Cincinnati, Ohio. Your price could be different.)

Here is our version of a Muffin Tin Monday Happy Meal at Home! My kids really enjoyed this!
I have included what is included in the Happy Meal & how much it cost us to eat it at home!

* 4 piece Tyson's all natural chicken nuggets = $.44
* Apple slices = $.25
* Ketchup for dipping
* Milk to drink = $.12

Total cost of a Happy Meal at home = $.81 for a Happy Meal at Home!

Here's the breakdown, for those of you wondering...

-Chicken nuggets were $2.18 for a box of Tyson chicken nuggets on sale at Kroger. There are about 20 pieces per box. We'll say that each chicken nugget cost about $.11 ea. times 4 chicken nuggets = $.44 for 4 chicken nuggets!

-Apples are 4/$1 or $.25 ea. at Kroger.

-One gallon of milk costs me about $2. There are 16 cups in a gallon. One cup = $.12

Not only are we saving money by eating at home, but I also think that the Home made version is healthier! Your prices could vary by region, and these prices are without using any coupons!

  3. What a great idea! We're into saving money this year as well. I'll have to try to not swing through McD's for a month though - that's probably tough at first!Great lunch!
