( I made this cute printable recipe card using MyMemories software. Click here to learn more about MyMemories. To print this cute recipe card  Go Here to download it to your computer.)

This week for Cooking with Kids, my kids and I made this super easy, and delicious desert called... Dump Cake! It is so easy to make, the kids did most of the work themselves! And it is so good! The kids loved it, well so did I! If you have never made this, you have got to give it a try!

Dump Cake Recipe {Just Dump everything in}

Ingredients:

  • 1 can (15 oz.) of crushed pineapple (you could use any fruit really, pineapple is yummy though)
  • 1 can ( 21 oz.) of Cherry Pie Filling (again, you could use any kind, but cherry and pineapple go great together)
  • 1 box (about 18 oz.) of yellow cake mix
  • 1-2 sticks of butter or margarine
  • 9 X 13 rectangular cake pan
  • Cool whip (optional)
Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Put a little butter in the pan, and smear it all over the inside.

3. Open canned pineapple can and dump it into the pan, juice and all! Oh, that's why it's called Dump Cake!

4. Now dump the can of canned cherry pie filling, stay with me here!
5. Next, stir the mixture together. Once it is all combined.....

6. Dump the dry cake mix evenly over the fruit. Smooth out the large clumps, and make sure that all of the fruit is covered. Weird huh! But just wait, we're just getting warmed up here!

7. Chop up a whole stick of butter (or margarine) and dump the pieces on top. Now stick it into the oven at 350 degrees for 45 to 60 minutes, or until the top is bubbly. Mmmm. While it is cooking, it will make your house smell delicious!

If I didn't know any better, I'd think that this was some sort of fruit crisp, or cobbler. Not just a few cans of fruit and cake mix on top! It is interesting how the fruit on the bottom combines with the butter on top to give the cake mix all of the moisture it needs. The top is so nice, and light and crispy, oh my! After this yummy goodness cools, just stick a spoon it and serve!

Yum! Now just top with whipped cream! Comfort food at it's finest! Just saying...
