Frugal Beauty Tips: DIY Beauty Recipes & More!

Are you a stressed out Mom? Look up the word "Mom" in a dictionary and you will find the word "Stressed". Look up the word "Stressed" and you will find "Mom".  In my dreams, I would be able to go to a "Spa" on a regular basis to unwind, relax, and get pampered.....

But, let's face it - The word "Spa" conjures up images of extreme pampering and indulgence, as well as BIG BUCKS - Crazy Expensive!!!

As an average Mom, I do not have the money or the time to go to a Spa regularly!

So, besides hunting down deals, coupons, and blogging - another one of my passions is having a "Pampered Mom Spa Experience" at Home!  So, I figured for the next week or so, I want to share with you some  tips and recipes to help you to relax, unwind, and pamper yourself. Skip the guilt when it comes to taking care of yourself, to pampering and treating yourself well.

In this "mini-series" you will find easy, delightful spa-like, frugal treatments and recipes that you can do yourself at home, that will only cost a fraction of the cost of buying expensive beauty products or going to a salon.

A family budget can easily get stretched to tightly, so I always keep that mind when I am having a "Pampered Mom Spa Experience" at home. You will find that a lot of the recipes that I will be sharing with you will actually involve things or ingredients that you already have around the house! You will soon learn that some of the best ways to feel pampered are actually FREE or very Inexpensive!

You will not find "spa treatments" you must try at your local salon, and you won't find time-consuming or complicated treatments here at Tips From A Mom of 3.

So, Are you ready to relax? Are you ready to pamper yourself in ways big and small?

Cinco de Mayo is a national holiday in Mexico, but it is also widely celebrated by Mexican-Americans in the United States. The holiday, which in Spanish means the “Fifth of May,” commemorates the Battle of Puebla, when Mexican patriots stopped a French invasion. To honor the day, people throughout Mexico, as well as many cities throughout the United States, celebrate with festivals and fiestas, enjoying traditional Mexican food and special music and dances.

Here is a round-up of some fun activities, recipes, and crafts for Cinco de Mayo:

    • With Mother's Day, Memorial Day, and graduation celebrations just around the corner, there will also be some great deals on grilling meats, condiments, such as ketchup, mustard, salad dressing, bbq sauce, plus sales on soda, chips, baked beans, and buns.

    :: Produce In - Season

Seasonal produce is also a great bargain this time of year! Consider stocking up and freezing the produce that you can while prices are at their lowest.

    IN-SEASON PRODUCE:
    • Asparagus
    • Avocado
    • Beans
    • Broccoli
    • Cabbage
    • Cucumbers
    • Radishes
    • Lettuce
    • Okra
    • Oranges
    • Peas
    • Peppers
    • Rhubarb
    • Spinach
    • Strawberries

Here are a few more tips to help you maximize your budget:

    :: Retail

    • Memorial Day weekend means an abundance of sales at the mall, home furnishing stores and home improvement centers, as retailers cash in on the long weekend. Consider waiting on your major purchases until this time. That's because the biggest markdowns during the month of May happen during Memorial Day weekend, when most people are thinking about barbecues, picnics, parades, and boating. Stores now need to work harder than ever to get people to shop.
    • May is a good month for spring clothing sales. Stores are already starting to mark down their beach and summer wear. However, it suggests waiting until Memorial Day weekend for the best markdowns, when you will find the lowest clothing prices since January.
    • May is also a good month for mattresses, box springs, and bedding, according to DealNews. And it's a good month to shop at home stores like Pottery Barn, which runs some of its best sales this time of year. DealNews says this is also a great time to haggle on a gym membership, because people are now exercising outdoors, and not thinking of joining a gym.
    • May also marks the start of garage sale season, so keep your eye on the classified ads!
    • You’ll want to frequent the thrift stores and consignment stores this month too, as people embark on spring cleaning and donate their unwanted items.

    What Not To Buy

    • May is not a good month for buying jewelry, at least until the day after Mother's Day. It says jewelry prices can actually increase at the start of May, in anticipation of all the shopping for Mom.
    • This is also a bad time to find a markdown on a grill or patio furniture, because it is peak season. The big markdowns on grills begin on the 4th of July.

    • And If you need a laptop, hold off until the big back to school sales that start in mid July.
