Day 14: Save Money With Coupons, Know When To Shop

Have you ever heard the saying, "Timing Is Everything?" Well, when it comes to coupons, one thing that is true, is that "Timing Is Everything!"

Well, if you get your Sunday newspaper every Sunday, and sit at your kitchen table and clip the coupons of items that you need, then head out to the store 2 hours later to use those coupons, then you will almost NEVER maximize your savings! Because, say you have a coupon for $1/2 products, and you take it to the store and that item costs $4.99 each, then your not going to save much money at all!

Manufacturer's count on Sunday Morning Coupon Clippers! That is what they expect you will do! They think that you will see a coupon, and rush to the store to buy that particular item right away, just because you have a coupon for it!

But here's a tip for you- If you wait to use the coupon, (with few exceptions) at least 2 weeks after it was issued in the newspaper, then you could possibly save even more money!

Sales cycles at Grocery Stores are usually pretty predictable. Most of your needs will hit rock bottom prices at one point during 8-12 weeks, sometimes longer but on average I would say 8-12 weeks.

In general, when a coupon is released, the item is not on it's rock bottom price!

So,  you will need to HOLD ON to the coupon and save it until that item goes on sale for it's rock bottom price. I know that this will take some time to get used to, because you also have to be careful that the coupon doesn't expire before it goes on sale for rock bottom price. But in the end, if you are patient, you will get the lowest price possible!

Coupon + Sale {Lowest Price} = Maximum Savings!

Don't forget to use your coupons with the best promotion available!

If you live by stores that double coupons, or allow you to stack coupons, ect. than try to combine using the "said" coupon with the store that will give you the most savings. Once you get the hang of couponing, (and it takes time) then this will come as a second nature. You will know what a good coupon is, and know what a good sale is, and you'll know which store gives you the best deals for the items that you family uses most often!

What are your best tips for timing your savings?
