Day 16: Don't Be Brand Loyal
One of the best ways to save money, is to forget about being "Brand Loyal." By using coupons for the items that are on sale, you will be able to try more "New" products, and spend a lot less money. This concept is hard for some people to swallow, but it is the true secret to saving more money.
I used to only buy, and use certain name brand products, before I started "extreme" couponing. For example: I used to only use Tide laundry detergent. I would get a coupon for $1 off in the Sunday newspaper, and then when we ran out of laundry soap, I would take my coupon and use it, but I'd still end up paying a lot of money for it. But since I've started stockpiling, couponing, and bargain shopping, I've learned that if you're willing to try other brands, you'll save a lot of money! So, instead of my "previous" way of shopping, now I will clip the "Tide" coupon, but I will only use it if I can get Tide at a really good price. Instead, if I see that Purex is on sale for a rock bottom price, and I have a few coupons, then for example, I'd be able to get (3) bottles of Purex instead of just one bottle of the more expensive brand, for the same price.
I now enjoy trying new products, and so far I have been pleased with the results!
